Property taxes are a BIG deal in our area—so this is one of the most valuable “new homeowner” topics.
A residence homestead exemption can reduce taxable value (and in some cases provide additional caps/benefits depending on eligibility). The Brazoria County Appraisal District outlines homestead exemptions and how they reduce tax bills.
What it does (in plain English)
It can lower the taxable value of your primary residence and may help limit how quickly your taxable value increases over time (depending on rules and your situation).
Who should apply
If you bought a primary residence in Pearland/Manvel/Alvin (Brazoria County) and it’s your main home—this is worth checking ASAP.
